We’ve been Chicago residents for just over three months and absolutely adore our new city. Walking the streets, going to the theatre, shopping on State Street and Magnificent Mile, it’s all our kind of lifestyle but with city life comes city living quarters. It was fortuituous that we found a spacious flat in down town Chicago however with roughly forty boxes of kitchen supplies our partial galley style kitchen was not able to accommodate all of our goods and equipment. We came to the agreement of removing the hanger and shoe rack from our great room closet that is directly off the kitchen and living room and turning it into an appliance and dry goods pantry. Through IKEA storage systems the whole upgrade costs only $175.00 (before tax). This storage system can hold up to 20 bottles. We use the wheeled cart to store our Kitchen Aid because it’s too heavy to be carrying around and this way it doesn’t take our counter space but is easily accessible. We hang our utensils so that we can see whats readily available but is also a good alternative if you don’t have drawer space. All of the items we purchased are located in the picture slideshow and the related links are listed below. Remember that Ikea is affordable because you assemble items yourself. It is very easy assembly with picture pamphlet but we highly recommend you follow directions and don’t attempt building the shelves on wine wednesday or you’ll pinch your fingers between the plastic attachments and metal shelves then wind up with a blood blister. Ouch.
