This winter dark lips are back. More or less a flashback to the 90s we’ve been seeing lusty lips on the runways and red carpet. Achieving the vampy pucker is easy as one two three if you know who to ask. I sashayed my eager pout into the Mac makeup store for a makeup tutorial so I could get the how to and below I will pass it on to you. Forewarning this theatrical look can be fierce and intimidating at first glance but after an hour of wearing it you’ll be strutting your stuff like a peacock.
Before applying lip liner and lipstick exfoliate your lips with a scrub or exfoliate pad. Course salt and a touch of olive oil is a good quick fix.
1. MAC Prep&Primer – This is like a thick Lip balm that keeps the liner from bleeding and extends the life of your color. Cover all of your lips including all of the edges that you will line.
2. MAC Nightmoth lip pencil – This is very dark burgundy nearly black liner. Outline your entire lips including corners just around where the pink of your lips meets your face tone. Colour in the corners and upper peaks of the lip heavily to dramatize. Shade in the outline slightly thicker and up into the center of the lips lightly to color. This will create an ombré effect. Blott lips with tissue if the liner is too dark.
3. A) MAC Rebel lipstick – Fill in entire lips with lipstick and add additional color in the center of your pout to accentuate fullness. This is a purple toned lip colour.
3. B) MAC Diva lipstick is a good alternate for a dark brown red shade.
I realize MAC can be costly but I’m allergic to many brands of makeup so this is what works for me. If you look at the web links I posted for MAC I’m sure you can find more affordable brands sold in drugstores or Target in the same shade.
