Contrary to the popular phrase “ABC” or “Anything but Chardonnay” we here at 2chefs1home will invariably choose a Chardonnay when in doubt of what to drink. Although Chardonnay’s lineage may not trace back as far as Muscat grapes that have grown for over 400 years, there is no denying this varietal has won the hearts of Americans as the most purchased wine through its gumption. With many styles of Chardonnay available it’s best to know what you’re looking for, be it; oaked or stainless steel aged, a buttery bouquet to coat the mouth, fronted with apple notes, a touch of citrus in the finish… The list can go on and on however if past experiences with Chardonnay make you uninterested try not to cast away an entire grape varietal based on one group of vintner’s opinions of what a Chardonnay should be. If you aren’t infatuated with the richness that malolactic fermentation provides in a typical California Chardonnay you might try another region, because perhaps a Pennsylvania Chardonnay will tickle your fancy.
2012, Gettysburg Winery of Adams County Winery, Pennsylvania, Appalachian Moon Chardonnay
- Price Point: $24.99
- Adams County Winery Description: A bold, handcrafted Chardonnay with a refreshingly crisp, citrus flavor that is highlighted by a lingering nuance of French oak.
- Jacob’s Review: Full bodied, pleasant nose with hints of oak, balanced acidity with residual sugars. It is ready to drink at its current age and worth it’s current price. I enjoyed this Chardonnay and would come back for more!
- Kate’s Review: Enjoyable young Chardonnay, pale yellow in color, deep citrus nose, fruit forward bouquet with a seductive mouthfeel, full bodied, custard notes and a toasty finish. This Chardonnay pairs well with creamy cheese sauces, lobster, grilled chicken and lamb. Best served around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
